Tips and Updates are quick posts to keep you up to date with current projects. The Youtube Woodworkers Scrap Bin Challenge finished last week. Everyone came up with some fun ideas. I needed some anti-skid material to make sure a project didn’t slide on a table top. I found the material but getting it to stick was another thing. Lastly, Its time to get back to work on the balcony railing I started a while back.
Youtube Woodworkers Scrap Bin Challenge 2014
A bunch of us Youtube woodworkers got together and decided to make something with our scraps and challenge viewers to do the same. I ended up making some T-Rex Bookends. The whole process was really fun, and I was kind of excited to see what everyone else came up with.

Steve Carmichael of the Carmichael Workshop.com and Youtube channel created a playlist of all the Scrap Bin Challenge entries plus some that people posted up after the challenge was thrown down. If you have some time please check them out.
Anti-Skid Material
If you need some anti-skid material to put on the bottom of your projects, I’ve found Jegs Toolbox Drawer Liner works. The only hard part is getting it to permanently stay on the bottom. I tested a lot of adhesives and figured out that gel super glue worked the best. I’ll keep testing and post my results because using super glue is expensive.

Before using the glue acetone was used to remove the oil residue left over from manufacturing.
Balcony Railing Update
We have a 15 foot x 30 foot balcony that we’re building the railing for. The end product will be metal posts with wood slats. Now that I’ve caught up with some of the other projects that crept their way in front of this project we can get back to it. The 20 posts now have mounting plates welded to them and have been painted up with Rustoleum Smoke Gray.
