Textured Wall Painting Tip

Doing a transition from one color to another on a textured wall can be a pain. A coworker told me a trick she used where she laid down painters tape for the transition, applied paintable caulk along the seam and painted the transition. When the tape is pulled up the caulk line stays.

  1. Painter’s tape will hold an edge without caulk, provided you follow a couple rules.
    1. The paint under the tape must be 2 days dry.
    2. The tape’s edge must be firmly pressed into the wall. I rub it with my thumbnail.
    3. Take the tape off before the paint is completely hard.
